On April 18, the annual LithuaniaBIO General Assembly took place. During the meeting, a new board member was elected – Justinas Taruška, CEO of “Nando”, who joined the team to contribute to strategic decision-making in Lithuania’s biotechnology sector.
Following the assembly, the Lithuanian Biotechnology and Life Sciences Industry Forum was held – one of many events this year dedicated to marking the 50th anniversary of modern biotechnology in Lithuania.
To commemorate this milestone, the industry community reflects on key achievements while also looking toward the future in a dynamic international context that brings both challenges and opportunities. The discussions addressed global challenges – from geopolitical tensions to shifts in the U.S. market – as well as the EU’s ambition to strengthen strategic technologies and eliminate barriers to competitiveness.
Lithuania’s biotechnology and life sciences sector stands out for its high productivity and internationally recognized R&D activities. The aim of the forum was to assess ongoing changes and discuss the prerequisites necessary to unlock the full potential of R&D in this field and ensure the sustainable development of the industry in Lithuania.
During the event, Darius Krulikovskis, Chief Analyst of the Research and Analysis Division at the Innovation Agency Strategy Department, presented the latest findings from a study on Lithuania’s life sciences sector. Later, during a panel discussion on the development of a science- and innovation-driven economy, Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania, Marius Stasiukaitis, and Vice-Minister of Health, Daniel Naumovas, spoke about strategic goals in a changing global context, shared insights, and answered questions from the audience.
Many thanks to all participants for their engagement and meaningful discussions!
