We also would like to congratulate another member of our association – Santaros klinikos Biobank!
Santaros klinikos Biobank’s main priority is to provide access of large variety standardized and systematized samples of biological human materials for Lithuanian and other scientific and industrial communities worldwide. This would have a tremendous impact on expanding fundamental knowledge about certain disease, optimization and improvement of diagnostics and treatment. At the moment, Santaros klinikos Biobank specialises in hematological, oncological disorders and viral infections. Biobank has around 20 000 samples of COVID – 19 virus and almost 100 000 samples related to hematology and oncology. These specimens are used for hematopoietic stem cell molecular testing and single cell sequencing analysis of refractory myelogenous leukaemia.
Important to mention that Biobank not only provides required specimen to other research but also initiates and preform research itself. Biobank created and validated cumulative PCR testing method for SARS-CoV-2. Biobank scientist also initiated Lithuanian Government to begin SARS-CoV-2 virus sequencing project to track the evolution and what types of SARS-CoV-2 circulates in Lithuania. The collaboration with other laboratories (VU, LSMU, LSMU KK) that preform genome sequencing helped to detect over 10 000 new SARS-CoV-2 genomes in Lithuania.
Santaros klinikos Biobank encourages scientist and business representatives to search for opportunities to use Biobank samples and information, start new Biobank projects to help to fight diseases and improve health care.
