On October 6, 3 p.m. EET, the second event of WOMEN IN BIOTECH will be opened by the expert of medical technology, entrepreneur, lecturer, philanthropist and TEDx speaker, Marissa Fayer. With 20 years of experience working in the life science industry, the female leader will present the activity of non-governmental organizations in medical technologies, the opportunities this industry holds for women, as well as the importance of supporting parts of the world derived of these recourses.
Fayer founded the Fayer Consulting company in support of businesses in the medical device industry, as well as the non-governmental organization HERHealthEQ, focusing on the improvement of women’s health worldwide. Moreover, Marissa is a mentor and active participant in several health awareness programs in Africa, Latin America and developing countries with lower access to healthcare. On October 6, Marissa will call upon women in Lithuania to support the philanthropic side of biotechnology.
“Our focus on medical devices for women’s health, especially non-communicable diseases in developing countries is a mission that resonates with a lot of people. There are very few people who don’t know someone who has had cancer or diabetes or heart disease. And it’s especially hard for people to understand that maternal health is not a focus of many countries. These countries and regions don’t have the equipment to fight these diseases. Diseases which are mostly able to be cured or addressed in our countries.” says M. Fayer.
The speaker, together with the organizer of WOMEN IN BIOTECH, the Lithuanian Biotechnology Association, recognizes that the 25 percent annual growth in the Lithuanian life science industry is a sound reason for students, entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers, especially female, to join the industry able to help the people that need it most.
According to M. Fayer, “To be in life sciences doesn’t only mean that you’re a scientist or developing something new. The life science industry needs all types of professionals to run the business and help it grow. And when you’re involved in a life science company you are automatically working to make the health of someone better. You’re changing the world.”
This year, the cycle of WOMEN IN BIOTECH events is taking a digital form from September 29 through October 20. The partners and sponsors of the initiative are the U.S. Embassy in Lithuania, MITA – Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology, Enterprise Lithuania, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Vilnius University Life Sciences Center.
