The BioBaltic project is glad to launch a second story from the storymap series on the bioeconomy state of the art in three Baltic countries. This time, the storymap brings us to Lithuania, where project partners explore the industrial symbiosis potential within bioeconomy industries in different parts of the country.
Richness in biological resources and a well-established bio-based primary production represent a huge potential for developing the bioeconomy in Lithuania. However, one ingredient is still missing. A lack of comprehensive interaction between stakeholders yet is a significant factor halting innovation and resource efficiency in the country.
Within the BioBaltic project, Lithuanian partners seek to strengthen the development of the bioeconomy by facilitating collaboration and exploring the potential for industrial symbiosis. A key goal is to identify existing symbiotic relations between companies in resource utilisation and ways to improve resource efficiency throughout the supply chains.

BioBaltic project
This storymap is a part of the BioBaltic storymap series overviewing the bioeconomy development in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The project provides a platform for generating awareness of different bioeconomy models through peer-to-peer learning and building networks across Baltic and Nordic countries. This collaboration will enable knowledge generation and exchange on different aspects of bioeconomy transition, including financing aspects, industrial partnerships and symbiosis or the opportunities of digitalisation. Project partners from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are running so-called “Mobile Learning Hubs” and the overall project is coordinated by Nordregio. Funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the project runs from October 2021 until September 2023.
